Emotionally realistic watercolors of Steve Hanks, from which my heart becomes warmer

In recent years, contemporary artists more and more often turn to watercolors, the most complex painting technique, and discover its amazing possibilities more widely and more deeply. And despite the fact that works painted with water-based paint are not as durable as those made with oil, many masters give their preference to watercolors. So the American watercolorist Steve Hanks (Steve Hanks) devoted 35 years of his work to her, creating incredible emotionally colored subject portraits of children and adults.

Steve Hanks was born to a military man in San Diego (California, USA) in 1949. Passion for drawing and playing sports, surfing and tennis have a comprehensive impact on the development of Steve’s personality. However, the teenager chose art as his future profession. Therefore, there was in the life of the future artist and the Academy of Fine Arts in San Francisco, from which he graduated with honors, and the California College of Arts and Crafts, from which he graduated with a bachelor of fine arts, and an interesting work of the designer after graduation.

And all this time, the young artist was constantly in a state of searching for his author’s manner, technique and handwriting. He tried all the visual tools – from a simple pencil and pastels to acrylic and oil paint, which became his favorite material for a dozen years. But when in the early 80s the artist began allergic attacks, he had to replace the oil with watercolor. It was she who served the artist with faith and truth throughout his subsequent creative life, allowing her to develop her own author’s style and manner; it was she who brought him worldwide fame and popularity, respect for the public and recognition of criticism.

In the artist’s paintings, most often you can see portraits, both single and group, enclosed in complex composite construction with interior and landscape backgrounds. The master scrupulously worked through the smallest details, light and shade, colors, and most importantly the mood and mental state of his characters. This is especially pronounced in the stunning adorable children’s images that captivate with their immediacy and sincerity. The technique of doing the work is so high that Steve’s watercolors can be taken for photographs.

The artist himself was married and had three children, who were models of his canvases. Hence the main theme of his paintings, soaked in warmth, tenderness, understanding and love.

For several decades, Hanks has been among the top ten American artists based on various versions and polls, was awarded the National Watercolor Society in the early 90s, and won the gold medal from the National Academy of Western Art. And not once became the winner of many professional competitions.

And his works are highly valued by art lovers not only because of the hypereistic execution in a complex painting technique, but also because they carry a huge positive emotional attitude. And it is not a secret for anyone that many people want to have at least a grain of happiness in their house, even if it is painted on the picture. This is – in the first place … And secondly – we all come from childhood, and in the depths of everyone’s minds lurk memories of that wonderful carefree time.
