The phrase that a talented person is talented in everything, anyway, fully relates to the personality of the 76-year-old Briton Sir Paul McCartney, the famous musician of the legendary Beatles group, its performer and songwriter. At one time, he put all his musical talent into his written hits, and now his name is becoming more and more popular in the field of painting. Critics have already begun to talk about him as a gifted artist who creates wonderful works of authorship.

“I don’t want to stay just a singer. I am interested in many things. And that’s my problem. ” Paul McCartney.

Everything has a beginning
From childhood, Paul loved to draw, and at school he simply adored subjects related to this activity. At the age of 11, Paul spent his entire school award for buying an encyclopedia on modern painting, and at the age of 14, he received a prize for the competitive drawing of St Aidan’s Churca temple, which was not far from his house.

Unfortunately, due to the difficult financial situation of the family, Paul did not have the opportunity to study at an art college to get a special education. And he considered this his great disadvantage in order to seriously engage in painting. Therefore, for a long time he hid his addiction to drawing from outsiders.
“I thought that only those who study at an art college can draw.” Paul McCartney.

“When I was a child, I always loved drawing and I liked the idea of ​​being an artist, but I felt that there were different reasons why I wasn’t because I didn’t go to Art College because I was just a worker’s representative class “… – years later, said McCartney.

And when, in the distant 60s, he gained popularity, fame, and material wealth, Paul became acquainted with art critic John Danber and gallery owner Robert Fraser. It is thanks to them that he began to join the visual arts. Having become a regular visitor to the gallery, he learned to understand painting, and also became seriously interested in the work of the surrealist René Magritte, began to collect and regularly replenish his collection of painting.
At 40 – life is just beginning

And since the 80s, Paul could not afford his own studio, and not one. It was then that in England, then in the USA, McCartney, in his creative workshops, began to independently comprehend the basics of painting with enthusiasm. “When I turned 40, I decided to change something in my life, so I began to draw,” McCartney recalls with a smile that long time. Nevertheless, for as long as eighteen years, the musician carefully concealed his secret addiction, as he was wary of critics. And over the years, the latter-day artist managed to write about 500 paintings.

His wife Linda, with whom he lived for 29 years (until her death), supported her husband in all his endeavors and once acquired for him an easel that belonged to Rene himself. After the death of Linda, Paul poured out his inconsolable grief both in music and in painting. He began to write Linda, long before her death, he wrote it after.

“Painting for me now is an attempt to deal with what comes in life after you lose someone. The pictures of Linda, which I have painted now, are rather turbulent, ”the musician spoke bitterly, for which painting at that time became a sort of panacea for mental suffering.

It so happened that the full collection of Paul’s works was the first to be seen in 1995 by Wolfgang Sattner, the organizer of the exhibition events. He then insisted on holding an exhibition of works by the artist. And personally, selecting the best works of McCartney, organized in 1999 in Germany, their display at the art forum «Lyz».

Since then, personal expositions have been held in many cities of Europe and the USA. Critics praised his works and stated that “The viability of Paul McCartney’s works lies in their cordiality. Love and passion are the leading themes in his music, as well as in his paintings. ”

However, McCartney himself does not claim to be a great artist and now he doesn’t care what the experts say about his creations: “I don’t want to show the whole world what I can do. And I’m not trying to hit anyone except myself. I think that is already sufficiently presented to the world. ”
Describing the work of a famous musician, and now also an artist, I would like to note that his works were written under the influence of the American school of painting. Abstract art and expressionism with notes of French surrealism are the main styles.
